Home in Autumn

This is one of my favourite home sessions. The home is filled with stories, little details, and the kind of character that simply can't be recreated anywhere else.

Their little one was around eight months old, a season of babyhood that holds such a special place in my heart. Chubby cheeks, curious little hands, and just enough confidence to explore, while still wanting the comfort of Mum and Dad's arms. It's such a fleeting season.

This session was actually rescheduled three times. Mama had dreamed of capturing family time in their backyard, but Adelaide's autumn weather had other plans. On the day of the session, it had been raining all morning and into midday. I remember checking the forecast one last time, which promised sunshine later that afternoon, and for once, I decided to trust it.

Thankfully, it was right.

The rain cleared just before we began, and we were gifted the most beautiful autumn light.

There was no rush and no shot list. We simply followed the rhythm of home.

Little hands turning the pages of a favourite book. Tiny feet wandering through familiar rooms. Cuddles in Mum and Dad's arms. The first taste of lemons picked straight from their own tree. Laughter, kisses, and golden afternoon light pouring through the windows before following us into the backyard.

Looking back, I don't remember the weather anymore.

I remember the feeling.

The warmth of home.

The little body that once fit so perfectly in their arms.

The quiet rhythm of an ordinary afternoon that, one day, won't feel ordinary at all.

I think that's what I love most about photographing families at home.

Not because everything is perfectly styled, but because this is where life happens.

And one day, these everyday moments will become the ones we long to step back into.
